Chairman’s Business Networking Blog, Tuesday 22nd July 2014.
19 members present.
Fresh back from holiday, Nige Kirby presented the Ed Slot which was all about presenting yourself. The 60 round and the 10 minute slot are all about preparation. It involves confidence, eye contact, passion and finally, please remember to smile!!
It was therefore with a smile on our faces that we inducted Chris Vernon, welcome Chris and we approached the 60 second round.
If there has been a Monty Python revival Richard Willis embraced it by wearing shorts and flip flops which were not apparent either when he was sat down at the breakfast table nor when he stood up behind to deliver his 60 seconds. Although he did not say, “and now for something completely different…” he was in fact, like several of us doing just that. He was asking for people who wanted to redo and refresh there brochures or leaflets with his expertise.
Likewise Lewis Hackney was suggesting people should try something different on their drives when they are looking to put down hard standing.
It would certainly be bucking the trend if we all invested the right amount of our income in savings both short, medium and long term and Ian Nicholson was promoting this.
Our unwillingness to plan for the future was taken up by Hugo Heij who was suggesting that we do not do this sufficiently in our businesses and Paul Lefever was urging us to find referrals for inspections of fuse boxes in order to ensure we had a future.
Several of us were looking to benefit from disasters of various sorts. Brian Painter, for people with phobias about flying for fear of its consequences, Chris Vernon, looking to put right disasters by other kitchen fitters. I was looking for probate referrals when someone has just died and Ian Stanley was looking for divorced women. They are apparently a section of the community that would benefit from his removal and storage facilities.
On the basis that there are 3 major disasters we are all likely to suffer in our lives or be stressed out by; death, divorce, and moving home. Robert Osborne was able to chip in in relation to the latter by offering his services as a mortgage broker.
The member however who presides over the worst disasters in the human life cycle is Dr. Deb. She had the cure for spotty teenagers, she had a range of soap free zit killers that would appeal to the majority of unwashed teenagers. As much for services to humanity as anything else Hugo awarded her the Oscar. With the hope of the zit free future ringing in our ears, we bowled into the 10 minute presentation which gave one of our newest members, Ian Stanley the chance to explain the nature and extent of his storage and removal business. It was a well put together presentation that had us passing round photographs and asking lots of questions. Well done Ian for getting in early in your membership of the group to present a 10 minute slot that was an excellent introduction for us all.
The referrals round continues to show promise. Although the monies recorded were around the £1,000 mark and down on last week, referrals blossomed by comparison with 13 referrals passed. The upturn of referrals in recent weeks will ensure more monies being earned and recorded.
This week represented a good solid performance by all of us. Let’s make sure we keep up the referral rate for next week whenI look forward to seeing you all again.
Oops sorry Anne, but this photo seems to have caught you on your mobile phone!!!
Another well written and entertaining blog Mr Chairman!
Apologies – am homeless from Friday so we are going to stay with family in Norfolk next week – please accept my apologies for missing the meeting! Can someone select the Oscar winner for me please? Look forward to reading next weeks blog! Thank you
I thought Anne was nodding off due to a late night or something…………….And English Ian Is clearly picking his nose, he should have had a bigger brekkie.!
Good referrals. I noticed that Christine was missing!
Attendance continues to be healthy despite the summer months, and it was nice to hear Paul’s praise of the group.
Brian, the phrase “he camera never lies” isn’t always the truth….in my defense I was resting my hands against my chin…..but in looking at that picture I think I might be following Nigel in the Sponsored Diet stakes! Great meeting again…and i thought my namesake did a superb 10 minutes. Hugo’s critique of our 60 second round brought out the competitor in me as I wasnt one of his top 5….so will be diligently working on my presentation for next week. Lastly I’m hoping to be bringing a guest next week,,,,one of the guys at the golf clubs daughter is setting up a photography business….I’m trying to persuade them it would be great for her to attend!…fingers crossed!!
Have a great week all………..and where was Christine???
Great meeting as usual. I don’t seem to be in the picture! Have a great week.
My phone is still on the table and I was not nodding off!! I blame the photographer, it was an excellent 10 minutes.
