Chairman’s Business Networking Blog Tuesday 17th June 2014
16 members and 1 visitor, Lewis Hackney of Aaron Paving, a guest of Jim Henshaw who is threatening to return next week… and join – let’s hope so.
One or two noticeable absentees including Nige Kirby has injured his ankle as a result of something a man of his age should avoid…exercise. Let’s hope you are well for next week Nige, we missed you. In the meantime Brian Painter stood in for him as Education and Development Officer and Richard Wallis stepped into the breach to deliver an Ed Slot that was aimed at the DIY marketeer. His basic advice was to have a plan… a very good idea. To write it down on the back of a “fag” packet did not quite meet the approval of Mr Painter however.
The 60 second round was littered with people suffering after-effects! Dean Smith found sitting difficult after cycling from London to Paris; Anne Clarke not quite herself after her hen weekend which involved the use of a passport and a close encounter with alcohol; and Richard Willis, sporting his Iron Man medal round his neck was frankly not looking much the worse for wear.
Frightening presentation of the week was Debra Glover with her 7 day detox boot camp; something about a toxic load, or was it a load of toxins. Most upbeat was Jim Henshaw who produced something slightly poetic and almost burst into song.
Brian Painter produced a harrowing tale of a lady who was abused both physically and mentally by her mother. I now pray for a rant about cigarettes and the detailed description of their toxic overload just to take my mind off his much abused client. His message, that there was no quick fix, probably resonated with Richard Willis who realised the same was probably true of Dean Smith’s rear end and promptly awarded him the Oscar.
It was Robert Osborne’s 10 minute presentation and despite the fact that he spent his time in the car park immediately before breakfast rewriting the notes that he had left behind, he gave a relaxed and confident performance and gave several reasons why we should be referring him and his services as a mortgage broker; not least because he spent 2 years erecting marquees when he claimed that he got “very fit”. Another unlikely candidate for “sexy business of year”.
Sad moment of the meeting, Robert Mayes emailed declaring that he will not be continuing as a member. Your challenge, ladies and gentlemen, is to find a builder to replace him. Let’s try to get one or two through the door in the next couple of weeks, a proactive builder who is always looking to use other trades within the group can be a great stimulus to referrals.
Once again, another lively, productive and enjoyable meeting.
I have already contacted a builder and am waiting for him to let me know if he’s available to join us Tuesday
Sounds like the meeting went well even with out me! In the builder front, someone who works locally would probably suite the group better
Well done Jim Lad, for bringing a visitor who will probably join.
Another easy to read and amusing blog
No mention of Christine’s knickers? Great Blog and good meeting – shame I had to leave before ‘very fit’ Robert’s 10 mins – sounds like it was exciting!
Another enjoyable start to the day!
