Chairman’s Blog Tuesday 22nd October 2013.
2 visitors, Phil Lowe, an Investment Surveyor and Rees Ballard offering Companionship Services.
This month has been good for visitors and Jim Henshaw deservedly leads the Performance League by virtue of being the main provider of visitors.
Nige Kirby was back from his Turkish holiday and his Ed Slot was a delight. He talked about testimonials, both the traditional ones on headed note paper and using social media for the same purpose. Scott Griffiths added a reminder about using the EBF website for this purpose.
So what themes emerged from this weeks 60 seconds round?
Robert Mayes was talking electricity. His advice was to take the shock of paying a bill to have the work done properly rather than getting a shock from faulty DIY work. Anticipating the worst outcome of not accepting Robert Mayes advice was Jim Henshaw, who was advising in favour of taking out funeral plans.
My own contribution was to advise in favour of Lasting Powers of Attorney to protects anyone who is at risk of losing mental capacity. You can tell when the clocks are about to go back: everyone is contemplating death or at least doom and gloom. For those of us who do not welcome the onset of Winter our spirits are always raised by Scott Griffiths enthusiasm for Santa. It is not surprising that he seems to be always cheerful, he acts for clients who sell inflatable roof racks and hire toilets. Someone out there must want them…
Question: what likes to dominate, talks with a deep voice, takes his mother with him wherever he goes and has to sleep with the light on because he is afraid of the dark…Oh, and his brother used to hide in the cupboard and make ghostly noises. Yes you are right… one of Brian Painter’s case studies that makes you realise that not only does he have a sense of humour, but he probably could not survive without one.
Anne Clarke, who was talking about Sage 1 also very sagely awarded the Oscar to Robert Mayes.
The 10 minute slot belonged to Nigel Kirby this week. Apparently he has a cat called “Tigger”. Plumbing runs in the family and someone or other apparently awarded him the title of Plumber of the Year. I believe he won the “Golden Spanner” which even now he finds useful. He is probably searching for the “Golden Rivet”. He went onto tell us of boiler installations and his own particular form of colonic irrigation, the power flush. In his spare time he sings, and often when he is working.
Yes, Nigel gave us a whistle stop tour of his career to date and thereby illustrated very comprehensively what he does and the sort of referrals that would be useful to him. A good performance.
A reminder from during the meeting is to make sure you send in tweets about your business to be used for part of our members marketing.
An interesting a successful meeting.
Good talk by Nige the singing plumber. Did anyone else get the impression that if our Chairman hadn’t called a halt he could still be talking now? Well done Robert for winning the Oscar.
You know me,never short of things to say.
An enjoyable meeting with humour aplenty – as is the Chairman’s summary (as always).
