A good turnout of 22 Members initially huddled together in the meeting in the face of unseasonal wind and drizzly weather but it did not dampen the spirits and the sun got out later.
Performance League
A new month and the current leader is John Freeman. It is encouraging to see new members leading the performance league.
Education Presentation
It was our veritable Education and Development Officer, to wit David Plumley, who delivered the Ed Slot. Its theme was “respect”; namely respect for our clients, the need to exercise patience and the need to educate in a non-patronising way. If you are unable to do all of these things then perhaps this is not the client for you.
The 60 Second Round
One or two interesting contributions this week.
Anna Marie Cooper was first up offering attractive prices for head shots.
Mike Rogers, whilst admitting to being a mortgage broker was more concerned to rid the language of unnecessary words. This weeks word was Rap or Wrap… with a W. This word is unnecessary because Rap without a W is an offence noise; Wrap with a W intimates instability or paper which is thrown away immediately after use, even cars are now being wrapped. Coincidently, it is a word that could be usefully used by him to ensure that members did not go over the 60 seconds, namely “Wrap Up”. I am sure Mike would say that that was what the bell was for and the use of word was totally unnecessary. I look forward to next week’s offering.
The School of Whimsey was relatively subdued. Nick Cooke was all steel beams and altering houses. Alan Shaw was brought under pressure to change plans to be re-submitted to the planners on behalf of a client and he slaved over the weekend, or rather.…one of his associates did. Who says he is not a great delegator. Far too business like for his own good and certainly not Whimsical. Allan Moller was looking for jobs to do on his way home. A bit difficult for us Alan, it depends where you are coming from to get home. If by this stage the Whimseys were not putting up the greatest showing Alan’s was an improvement and they were saved by Brian Painter to whom, apparently, a lady on the Tube stood up and offered him her seat. One of his current clients positively made him feel weak at the knees with her obsession of plucking out her eyelashes and then eyebrows. He is in search of the time in her life when some plucking or threat of plucking created the plucking problem.
We look forward to further information next week as our Pilgrim investigates.
The veritable Vincent Goode, for the second week running, mused on his 35 years as Mayor of Gants Hill Village. Whether this was a sort of backhanded plea for ladies to offer him their seats on the underground I do not know, but his pitch was notepads and he was generous enough to give everybody one. He gave examples of various types of pads that served constantly keeping him and his company in the forefront of the minds of his clients. I would suggest that a pad of soft paper with his details on and with a string round the top corner would be available to maintain the reminder even when people used what the Americans rather prosaically term the “Rest Room”.
Within the context of a team being involved in any marketing project Jill Willis emphasised the importance of Project Management. She suggested the use of a big white board in a very non techy way. Talking of project management, John Freeman has a big job coming up which is going to take most of his time from the end of June through until September.
And who won the Oscar ? Mason Edwards awarded it to Jo Eastwood for producing lots of colourful tins containing craft beer which she expertly stacked in front of her. It’s nice to know that Mason knows where his priorities lie.
This weeks statistics and points of note
- 22 Members present
- 26 referrals
- £10,700.00 of business recorded
- Current Network leader John Freeman
- Oscar Winner Jo Eastwood
Synergy Team Report
Paul Booth reported a lively Synergy Team Meeting that took place on Tuesday at Reeds where there were 7 members present including a couple of new faces. Get down there, it’s becoming the place to be at 4.30 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.
World Cup Draw
Because it was back in 1966 when we last won with the mascot fondly named “World Cup Willie” our own “WCW”, Stuart Smallcombe has very efficiently organised a sweepstake. Because there is a prize for the worst performer we were all much more excited that we would normally be; money exchanged hands, hands were put into a bag containing all of the teams and the draw was made, congratulations Stuart.
All of this slightly delayed the start of the 10-minute presentation although it kicked off a minute after 8.am. It was Alan Shaw’s turn and he made severe use of the technology. His slides showed up quite clearly except whenever he stood in front of the screen the effect became interesting if not as clear.
He had listed as an interesting person that he had met, Picasso’s granddaughter. Whether they were formally introduced or not I do not know. He probably recognised her as the only person he had met who had her nose positioned quite close to her right ear.
He went on to set out his interesting career and showed a picture relating to when he was involved with the building of a Palace for the Sultan of Brunei. He was at risk of being booted out of the Country for taking any photographs but he managed a rather interesting shot of a forest with a gate to the left of it. I think there was a certain amount of camouflage going on. As a performance, it held our interest and more importantly many members were able to attest to Alan’s effectiveness particularly in dealing with seeing things through the planning process. Great Performance Alan without abandoning entirely the Whimsicalities of your job.
Referrals Round
A lively round with plenty of referrals and in particular well thought out as well as good referrals. Members are making positive efforts to identify the requirements of fellow members.
