A clear sky, a beautiful morning and 21 members present including Nick Fuhr substituting for the absent Paul Booth. In addition, John Hammond introduced the meeting to his son Blake.
Education Presentation
What David Plumley described as “the flip side” of referrals was a warning that as a recipient you should do everything you can to make sure that a referral to you is successful.
Obtain full details from the referrer, make contact with the potential client as soon as possible and keep the referrer in the loop until you have secured the job.
Afterwards, make sure that you acknowledge receipt of payment for the job by filling in the relevant form at the meeting.
The 60 Second Round
The Ed Slot might have been inspirational but everybody was far too taken up with the theme for the 60 Second Round, suggested last week by Scott Griffiths namely, we should indicate a television series or a box set that linked in some way with our businesses.
For Mike Rogers it was The Professionals because he had fond memories of when he drove around in a Ford Capri.
Stuart Smallcombe, with his cousin Brett, suppliers of voice and data cabling “from the West End to Southend”. It was inevitable he would think of Del Boy and Rodney in Only Fools and Horses.
John Freeman selected Stargate because, like him, the actors were “quick in and out” of the stargate.
Jo Jones went for The Walking Dead as a description of her clients before or after she had given them “a seeing to” so to speak My choice was also The Walking Dead but merely because it indicated a lack of mental capacity that would have stopped two-thirds of the population being able to give instructions for Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Richard Reed’s was Game of Thrones because he thought of kings, then Lions being the kings of the jungle and then the safaris that he is currently pushing; tenuous or what…
Terry Maylin, If You Can’t Pay, We’ll Take It Away, definitely managed to select a relevant TV show.
Brian Painter tested our memories with a reference to Softly Softly and then illustrated this with a current client who is a nail biter who clearly need TLC……softly.
Allan Moller was probably the most appropriate with The Great Escape in anticipation of his upcoming 1-month motor cycling holiday. EBF’s very own Steve McQueen.
But pride of place went to Nick Cooke whose description of a house as if it were a cake produced in The Great British Bake Off was as inspired as it was well thought out.
What I thought was a surprising gem of information came from Marcelle Saad who stated with surprise that a quarter of men who “pop the question” do so without a ring. Sounded reasonable to me….and don’t say I am unromantic. My wife recalls vividly both of my romantic moments.
Nonetheless, the 60 second round was a great success with everyone entering into the spirit of things and at the same time reminding us all of exactly what it was our businesses were about.
This weeks statistics and points of note
- 21 Members present
- Paul Booth is still in the lead in the Performance League
- £3,500.00 of business recorded.
- 19 referrals
10 minute Questions and Answers session
Always popular is a Q&A instead of a 10 minute presentation, and this week was no exception. We had 20 minutes to spare and it was all very usefully used up in an amusing exchange between most of the members who had obviously if not surprisingly listened to the 60 second round.
A lively exchange with good business passed and as our numbers rise we are reminded that the holiday season is now nearly over.
This weeks themed 60 seconds round showed the sharp minds that our fellow members have, I did say fellow members – I agree that mine was very tenous. Some excellent and humerous offerings.
The Q & A sesion always provides members wth an opportunity to find out a little more detail from other members… as would a one to one.
Great meeting.
The themed 60 seconds was indeed good fun, good meeting as always, and I think nick would make a great Mary Berry, very well-done Nick! And to all for their efforts, including tenuous Richard 😊
Do many of our members remember the police programme Softly, Softly? I suppose the answer is Hardly, Hardly!
A good, lively meeting.
nice to have a themed meeting for a change good turnout!
Thank you for welcoming Nick. Sorry I missed it. Sounds like another great meeting.
Great meeting, nice to be getting back into the swing of things after August’s slowing of the pace!
