We were 25 in number including 2 visitors, Lee Scarff a plumber and Paul Keegan recruitment. Such numbers are always a prelude to a lively meeting and today was no exception.
What’s new:
Mike Rogers returned after a 4 week sabbatical sporting a new suit, grey flecked wool and at least 4 weeks of beard. Now that he has a beard this frees up several minutes a day that would otherwise be spent shaving and accordingly his demeanour was notably more relaxed.
Scott Griffiths has just launched our new Website, and very good it is too. He introduced it in the Ed Slot. I will not repeat his various messages. His bottom line is, check the site, particularly in relation to your own entries and notify Scott of any problems/discrepancies.
Jill Willis is ahead in the performance league.
The 60 Second Round
Jo Jones suggested the ideal Mother’s Day present; a whole body massage or maybe something a little less strenuous such as the hot stones.
Jo Eastwood was full of technical information about her products. She produced several examples including a bottle of “Red French stuff” and “Hendrix in a box” ( Something that those of us old enough to remember the early rock years assumed happened many years ago ).
Mike Rogers is looking for virgin purchasers (that’s right, first time buyers) so that he can train them in the dark arts before they get any of the wrong ideas about house buying.
What of the naughty table? With old age creeping up on them but remaining as ever mischievous Stuart Smallcombe referred to a recent trip to the opticians and demonstrated his new reading glasses and grey hair. Howard Bullock told of a client who was wanting one of those “new-fangled pensions”.
In the absence of Nick Cooke and Brian Painter, Alan Shaw headed up the School of Whimsy team. He always now begins his 60 seconds by declaring that he “designs buildings”. What follows often has little or no connection with this preliminary declaration. This week a school was having him design a mugger. Apparently this is a multipurpose piece of ground for which planning permission is needed although he was not dealing with that aspect of this little known designated area.
He received whimsical support from Allan Moller who produced the saying of the meeting in referring to a client who wanted lighting all over his back garden “…don’t bling it up like Blackpool” or was it “bring it up like Brackpool”.
Anyway all of the aforementioned contributors were put in the shade by Steve Roach who explained that the 10 years celebrations at the Holiday Inn of Phoenix FM will have none other than Ed Sheeran…’s cousin. Dean Caldon awarded him the Oscar if for no other reason he made us all laugh. No one seemed to argue with this.
This weeks statistics and points of note
The referrals round had to be short and snappy at the end of the meeting but it was based on 44 referrals and business confirmed of £68,700.00. I can’t remember better numbers in recent memory.
Synergy Team Report
Richard Reed confirmed that the Business to Consumer Synergy Team Meeting took place earlier this week, on Monday evening at the George and Dragon. There were 8 of us there in all including Donna Evans, a first time attender. Richard declared that she owned up to being turned off by men over 65. Let this be a mission to us all to increase the membership and make sure the demographic is pushed up to reflect a more youthful business owner, if for no other reason than to keep Donna interested.
10 minute presentation by Michael Adelizzi
Michael Adelizzi produced through the appropriate technology a show of various bathrooms that he had completed whilst giving us a rundown of the history of his business. He of the “House of Thrones” gave a polished performance. He is one of the members that we can refer without fear of him doing anything other than a really first class job.
Closing Summary
The meeting drew to a close with threats by the 2 visitors to come back and join us and Jill Willis and I setting off for Phoenix FM’s Studios to record the EBF adverts that will be rolling at Phoenix FM on a daily basis over the next year. They will be published on the Website for you all to listen to. An absolute must if you run out of anything to do during the working day.
In summary this was one of the most lively meetings I can remember, good humoured and very effective from a business point of view.
I look forward to seeing you all and more, next week
