Chairman’s Blog Thursday 7th March 2012
28 present including visitor David Studd, a business coach.
Jason Nortey delivered the education slot this week urging us all to keep an eye on our businesses generally; making sure that we checked our past performance, kept up with and thanked our best customers, as well as doing our day to day work. It was a very helpful contribution.
The 60 second round had its moments…. Michael Adelizzi passed round a shower head that was so heavy it felt as if it was made of iron. Marcelle highlighted Aquamarine as her stone of the week and its colour apparently is affected by the amount of its iron content.
Chris Holmes told of jobs where he had to get rid of rats and jobs where he was involved with celebrities. The two seemed somehow to be linked together.. and whilst on the subject of animals, the thoroughbred Bard of Hadleigh did not want any referrals because next week he will be away at the races, which is sort of where he was today.
Terry Maylin was at his ass kicking best and Geoff Todd was suggesting that shortly we would not be able to kick things into the long grass as the mowing season was approaching. As the rain fell on a deserted golf course nothing seemed further from the truth.
Alan Shaw has at last attended a presentation regarding the new Building Regulations. He had referred to this in an earlier 60 seconds but this time he was able to give us some information; namely that there are not many relevant changes, which will presumably help Kevin Brooks who was promoting his ability in taking buildings apart.
David Studd, our guest, rather poetically produced the phrase of the week, “don’t steal a watch from someone and expect them to tell you the time”.
Indeed it was poetry that in the end won the day. John Probert produced an advertisement for his business in verse which quite rightly won the Oscar…
….and yet for all the above contributions the meeting was dominated by old grumble guts himself. Never say blokes can’t multi-task, being the Oscar winner from last week Mike Rogers not only presented the Oscar but was also the bell man in the 60 second round. Just when we thought we had got rid of him it turned out that he was presenting the 10 minute slot. He rather impressively rattled off current mortgage rates and illustrated the greater availability of mortgage funds coupled with these better interest rates in such a mind numbing way that it quite clearly illustrated how essential it was that he should be consulted on all matters relating to mortgages. Our job is now to convince lots of other people outside of the meeting that this is the case and get him lots of referrals.
What was particularly gratifying about the meeting was the referrals round. There was almost £18,000 worth of business recorded and 30 referrals which is an excellent strike rate on both fronts.
Terry Maylin will be circulating details of social outings shortly. May I ask you all to make sure you respond whether, you are proposing to attend or not, so that he has a positive response that he can move forward with.
I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Quite why I seem to be asleep in this photo I’m not sure. Oh yes – it was Mike talking 😉
Next week I’ll give Mike a stick so he can prod you in the ribs when it happens again!
Another fantastic meeting yesterday. I have some guest arranged over the next couple of weeks, including a speaker from the Rotary Club who also supports the St Francis Hospice. They arrange the half marathon.
Have a jolly good weekend.

Yes, another cracking meeting, and with good attendance. A helpful committee meeting too.
Lots of business being done in a very friendly manner and I received three referrals. What better way to start a Thursday.
Have a great w’end everyone.
Me.
I also received 6 referrals so obviously it pays not to ask for any referrals -Is that what they call a double bluff -Dont ask and you will get or are you lot just bloody cruel.- Dont you worry about me sitting in my office on a Saturday morning trying to deal with the bloody things – I sound a bit like Mike dont I. Thank you for the great referrals .
I do prefer dealing with pests more than celebrities i must admit. There are common links between the two although I’ve always found that pests are quiter and not so demanding!
