Chairman’s Business Networking Blog Thursday 3rd April 2014.
A reasonably good turnout – 20 in all.
Everyone was anticipating the return of Ed Crocker and it was not for want of trying. Following the meeting Terry Maylin has been able to report to us of his accident at a Toll Booth approaching the Dartford River Crossing. Best wishes to Ed for a speedy recovery from his broken bones and cuts and bruises. Certainly when the prizes are given out at the end of this year, best and most convincing apology for absence will be his for the taking?
David Plumley delivered an important message in the Ed Slot, looking at the 60 second round from the point of view of the audience. He quite rightly pointed out that we owe every member who stands up and delivers a 60 seconds presentation the courtesy of listening and more importantly, not checking ‘phones (which should be switched off anyway), not passing leaflets and samples round and not talking. Making notes is a positive and sensible thing to do if you hear something that reminds you of a possible referral.
As to the 60 second round itself, amidst the exemplary attentiveness of the members inspired by David’s Ed Slot, notable contributions included:
Mike Rogers producing statistics for mortgages placed in the month of March since 2005 revealing March 2014 as being head and shoulders above the rest.
Alan Shaw, as always, was reaching for the unattainable. Tomorrow is the last day for submissions to the local council under the old building regulation regime. Let’s go out there and try and find him a referral for tomorrow!!!
Stuart Smallcombe produced a rather lovely shimmering object that could have been fibre optic but was not. He then proceeded to show us the real thing. I don’t think he sells the former but I think he installs the latter.
When David Plumley stood up there were 4 days 16 hours and 18 minutes to go. When he sat down of course there were 4 days 16 hours and 17 minutes to go. Something to do with Windows I think.
Saying of the morning from Howard Bullock, “past performance is no guarantee of future performance”. We had probably all heard it, when you think about it, it also applies to any one of us, although Howard’s focus was on investments.
Tina is renaming herself and hopes to have the cards to prove it next week. Let’s all think of what she might be calling herself next week, your comments to this Blog can reveal your thoughts. My vote is for Margery.
Brian Painter’s case study this week was a taxi driver who was working too many hours and couldn’t sleep.
It was Stuart Smallcombe who was charged this week of awarding the Oscar which went to Marcelle who spoke of with her core business, diamonds. Apparently this month’s birth stone. As always, well researched and well delivered.
If Tina is going to be renamed next week, so is Kim. No! She is not changing the Redwood-Lee handle but by a sort of unanimous consensus her title as in the great debate between Social Secretary and Events Co-ordinator produced, perhaps not unsurprisingly, a new title of Social Co-ordinator. This does not however give her licence to advise us blokes whether or not our tie matches our shirt.
On the subject of co-ordination, David Plumley is never one to shy away from a nifty match between tie and shirt and today, suitably attired, he addressed us for 10 minutes about his business.
My problem with IT is the puzzling wealth of acronyms and David treated us to a fair share of these today. None the less, of all the members, he has had dealings with most of not all of us at some time or another. He starts off 40 : love up because his services are so highly regarded. He managed at the same time to keep Brian Painter and the other luddites amongst us focused and fully understanding of the message he delivered. He is certainly top of most of our lists as to the member we can most confidently recommend to third parties.
As far as the numbers were concerned, we fell just short last month of £100,000.00 worth of recorded business which was a good effort. We kicked off this month with about £5,250.00 recorded and 25 referrals which is also a good strike rate.
For a change, this week I do not propose mentioning our ongoing obligation as members to bring visitors and encourage new members. In return I look forward to being pleasantly surprised next week.
Oh why not!! I would love to be co-coordinating all of your outfits. I think we should tackle this at the next committee meeting. I did read an article once that said you shouldn’t trust a man wearing a red tie.
Do I get an actual prize? Something a bit more tangible than fame & glory?
Great meeting!
Great meeting and really sorry to hear Ed Crockers news- definitely award for best excuse for not attending! Wish him a speedy recovery and I have offered to put him in touch with a good personal injury lawyer!
So next week Marcelle is delivering the ed slot, the 10 minute presentation and awarding the Oscar and the ladies boasted how well they multi task. If that is the case why aren’t they keener on threesomes?
Hi guys, sounds like I missed a good meeting whilst I was becoming a rather mature virgin skier. Shame about Ed’s accident but looks like he is already on the mend (and a referral for Terry to boot!!). See you all on Thursday.
