A good turnout of 22 members with 2 visitors, after a suitable refreshment and networking, commenced the meeting at 7.20am.
Education Presentation by Nick Cooke
Nick Cooke managed to arrive just before we started the meeting but he was prepared for his education presentation. This week it was business cards.
I do not know whether the adverb βsadlyβ applies but he has retained a copy of all of his business cards from when he started up in business on his own.Β I think it is what you would call βa journeyβ.Β He extolled both the usefulness of the business card and the fact that you didnβt need to rely on batteries.Β Well done Nickβ¦ thought provoking.
The 60 Second Round
The Ed Slot interrupted Nickβs late breakfast and as he was first up with the 60 second round Nick Cooke was once more having to pause amid mouthfuls of sausage and beans.Β He seems to be getting more inspections these days for potential house purchases.Β Is this a trend?Β Dean Caldon only said itΒ mightΒ be. Nothing whimsical here although he had done well in this regard with the Ed Slot.
Serena Armond showed photographs of a completed kitchen in which she is going to pass on to the owner.Β Thank goodness she does not install lavatories.
John Freeman informed us of a happy event.Β He has obtained aΒ Trust MarkΒ for various areas of endeavour that makes him a very highly qualified βOdd Jobβ.
Richard Reed managed to come up with another reason why you should use him, namely that he doesnβt place you with dodgy airlines.Β He has no one in his holiday pipeline that are involved with Monarch.
Jo Jones is trying to soften her image.Β Her regular boot camp is to be renamed βoutdoor fitnessβ.Β Almost a euphemism.
Kevin Brooks added to the Education Slot theme of business cards.Β He likes plastic ones because they are very useful for cleaning ice off a windscreen in winter.
Stuart Smallcombe just wants to look after people.Β He was called out to an apparently faulty telephone system but there was nothing wrong with the system, just the providers.
Dean Caldon won the Oscar this week with a carefully preparedΒ β telephone exchangeβ with himself, Jill Willis and Howard Bullock demonstrating the art of selling a house by speaking to the owner and the purchaser.Β The most interesting thing to emerge from this excellent presentation was the name given to Howard Bullock who was the prospective buyer.Β He will be hereinafter known asΒ Mr Pants.
Indeed Mr Pants went next, explaining how he sets up a pension and the advice he gives to his clients in relation to the said pension.
Matt Barry had a simple message.Β You might have problems with taking images from the internet and the necessity of getting consent.Β Go to him because he can do all of this.
In Brian Painterβs absence, Alan Shaw carried a large part of the burden of the School of Whimsey.Β He did not disappoint, he stood up and said that he had several jobs with problems, pondered these with us and then sat down as if overwhelmed by these problems.
Scott Griffiths let himself down, the group down, his family down and everyone else down by mentioningΒ Christmas.Β Having broached the subject he told of ecards and decorating your website; if you really do want to cast your mind forward to Christmas then you might want to think about doing this.Β This theme was taken up by Allan Moller who is involved in electrical installation and fault finding.Β He was offering his availability in the run-up toΒ ChristmasΒ and was βlooking for jobs on the way homeβ.Β If we do not know his route however, can we really make referrals for jobs on his way home?
Terry Maylin demonstrated his tenacity in collecting money for clients. Clearly, the essence of a good debt collector is persistence.
Paul Booth has various clients from βlawyers to lap dancersβ.Β He is now looking for self-employed music teachers.Β Presumably, he will accept lawyers or lap dancers as well.
This weeks statistics and points of note
- 22 members present
- 2 visitors, Hannah Shepherd and Sandra Hamer
- 22 referrals
- Β£19,300.00 worth of business recorded
- The Oscar was won by Dean Caldon
- Winner of Performance League for September was Paul Booth.
10 minute presentation by Tina Walker
In David Plumleyβs absence, I had the pleasure of introducing Tina Walker who gave us a full rundown of the services that she provides, the flexibility that is available and her charges for this.Β A very useful description that hopefully will stimulate us to not only use her ourselves when the necessity arises but also find referrals for her.Β Clearly, she provides services that would appeal to the small business where the owner is involved in doing the work as well as the administration.Β Keep your eyes peeled.
Meeting Summary
With good numbers of referrals and business passed the referrals round gave us all good reasons for being here.Β Terry Maylin passed on greetings from Michael Adelizzi.Β We wish him well and a successful recovery.
You left out your own best comment in that Mr Pants employees will now be known as underpants. A very enjoyable mornings constitutional .
Great meeting good 10 minutes Tina or was it 15
Sorry for taking so long on my 60 secs this morning… blame Mr Pants, he was daydreaming… he only had one job to do and he was pants. See you next week team… π
Good 10 minutes from Tina Walker who has proved very useful to assisting my business over the years and strange but interesting education slot!
good meeting – full of pants any where and any time
I was reminded this morning of why I like this networking group… a good mix of serious business and good humour in the presence of trustworthy business people.
Well done to Tina for her informative 10mts and a worthy Oscar winner in Dean.
Great meeting looking forward to next week and also 10 minutes.
Have a great weekend everyone.
A joyous morning to say the least, even though I had to drag myself out of bed π itβs always worthwhile coming to EBF networking, thoroughly enjoyed this meeting.
Great 10 minutes Tina, well done! outstanding 124 second presentation from Dean, and co π
See you all next week
Great meeting nice to see everyone as always informative, friendly and always a chuckle here and there
Good attendance and nice to see some visitors. Seems to be an ongoing pants theme originally starting with Kevin R with his budgie smugglers, Brian and his mankini and yesterday was Mr Pants. Lets just hope that there is no future mention of items such as Banana Hammocks or manhole covers.
That reminds me , Apart from Donna does anyone else want to see the holiday snaps ?
I’m still waiting for the proceeds of my house sale to clear…
Yeah good luck with that! I know a good debt recovery solicitor if you dont get paid.
