Another good meeting under our belts. And aren’t they always? We had 19 members and one visitor. Brian Painter of Pilgrim Hypnotherapy took charge of the meeting whilst our usual chairman Aidan Squire one of TM Law remained on holiday for another week.
Scott Griffiths of Eseyo our web guy informed us of this week’s winners of the Performance League. And I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that Paul Booth our Accountant came out on top of the pile again. A great performance as always Paul. But not content with being top of the league, also delivered this week’s Education Slot on ways to turbocharge our 60 second presentations. Paul reminded us that the use of a prop during the course of our presentation was always an excellent means of reinforcing our respective messages. Before now, for example Serena our kitchen and bedroom specialist has shown us a selection of kitchen cabinet doors. Kevin our builder brought in a small laser level once to show us the type of sophisticated equipment he uses to make sure his walls are built in a straight line. Paul Booth demonstrated how a toilet roll could be used successfully to make a 60 second presentation more memorable.
As always, our individual 60 second presentations were a very varied and diverse mix of the services and products that each of us provide. Tina Walker of Liberty Executive Services reminded us that Christmas was not too far away (thanks Tina) and that she would be delighted to make all the necessary arrangements for our business and staff entertainments for the festive period. Brian Painter our mind mechanic told us about one of his client’s fear of speaking in public and how he was able to help overcome that particular problem. As always, Brian reminded us that help is just a phone call away.
Jill Willis our wordsmith mentioned that 308 years ago plus 2 or 3 days, it was the birthday of that well know lexicographer Samuel Johnson, the author of A Dictionary of the English Language. He would have been the perfect man to prepare the content for our websites but in his absence, Jill would of course be very happy to stand in for him. Paul Booth who was practising what he preached a little earlier on in the meeting didn’t take the toilet roll route on this occasion but made reference to everybody’s favourite board game Monopoly. In this regard, he reminded us that many of his clients bought and sold properties and how he could help his clients to maximise profits from their respective businesses.
Joe Eastwood of Liquorice (the offy in Shenfield and she has one in Buckhurst Hill too) shared the story of how unruly youths call into her off licence from time to time not buy anything but to have a bit of fun and be difficult. Jo said how on one such occasion there just happened to be a gentleman paying for something and she asked him to hang around us for a few moments whilst she did her best to get the troublemakers out of the premises. She did so without any trouble at all. But it’s a funny thing isn’t it – that this gentleman turned out to be one of our visitors at EBF a short while ago. And on the strength of this story Jo was awarded this week’s Oscar. A great presentation Jo.
Our 10 minute presentation was delivered by Stuart Smallcombe. Stuart and his team at LG Networks the data cabling specialists told us a little about himself, his family and his business and how everything fits together nicely. So he covered the key points of who he is, what his business does and the main areas covered which as we all now know is from the West End to Southend. One of the key points Stuart mentioned was that whatever British Telecom can sell you, LG Networks can also sell it to you. But better of course! A number of questions were raised following Stuart’s presentation all of which he fielded very well.
The business referral and testimonial round went swimmingly as usual with plenty of good business being passed between the respective members of the group. The subsequent Referral Reality Check which reviews the previous week’s referrals demonstrated once again, and at the risk of repeating myself, that the system was working very well indeed.
So once again, and as usual, we had a very good and of course very enjoyable meeting.
Happy networking to all you Eebeeeffers – can someone run a spell check on that one please.
Nick
Great blog Nick…think I have competition on my hands for the title of EBF Wordsmith!!!
And excellent 10 minutes from Stuart. It’s so nice to see a family business that is so professional, with technical expertise in abundance, and such a fun personality.
As a freelancer, in a home office, I don’t need many cables. But I’m considering taking office space just so I can work with LG Networks!
Very entertaining meeting despite being only 19 of us it seemed like more and an excellent presentation by Stuart Smallcombe which may put him in with a shout for the best 10 minutes of the year in the awards ceremony!
Excellent meeting. Should be higher numbers next week. I always enjoy Stuart’s 10 minutes. Good to see Sandra. I hope she joins.
